Generally speaking, the concept of knowledge transfer in humanities and social sciences refers to the creation of value based on scientific knowledge in this field, through collaboration with companies, institutions and stakeholders. The UAB has given an impetus to the initiatives in this field by creating the Office of the Vice-rector for Social and Cultural Transfer.

Until the late 90s, the term most used to define the knowledge transfer process was the transfer of technology, which implied that it was related to something physical.

Since then, in line with the recent studies on knowledge-based economies, the concept of knowledge transfer is regularly employed, referring not only to material things but also to the know-how associated with these and the knowledge generated by disciplines such as social and human sciences, which have a significant socioeconomic impact.
