? In 2008 the European Commission (EC) launched the Open Access project, which is aimed at ensuring that the results of EC-financed projects are offered to the public for free.
? It is expected that the beneficiaries of the seven areas of the Framework Programme (Energy, Environment, Health, Communication and Information Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities, e-Infrastructures and Science in Society)will place the articles generated in an institutional repository.
? To support the implementation of Open Access in Europe the EC finances the Open Aire project, www.openaire.eu, which provides the infrastructure needed to promote the widespread adoption of the Open Access Policy.
? The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology FECYT is taking part in the Open Aire project, coordinating it in Spain.
? The UAB is participating in this programme through the Library Service and the Digital Repository of Documents - a tool that facilitates the collection, management, preservation and dissemination of scientific, academic and administrative knowledge generated in the university.
